The Dr Pepper Museum is saddened by the passing of Ted Getterman, generous long time donor to the Museum and former Waco 7UP bottler.  Louis Theodore Getterman, Jr. passed away on Tuesday, July 1, 2014.  He was 89.

Born in 1924 in Baltimore, Maryland, Getterman served in the U.S. Army Signal Corps during World War II. After the war, Getterman attended Baylor University completing his BBA in 1949 and his law degree in 1951.  While there, he met and married Sue Holt.  He joined his father-in-law, E. E. Holt, in the family business of manufacturing soft drinks eventually becoming president and owner of the Seven-Up Bottling Co. in Waco, Bryan and Austin.

In addition to their support of the Dr Pepper Museum and the 7UP Bottling Line to be featured in the Museum’s East Wing, the Gettermans have been at the helm of an impressive list of Waco civic and charitable organizations.  Getterman served two terms as Waco mayor in 1976 and 1979 and was on the Hillcrest Baptist Medical Board of Trustees from 1993 to 2002.  Together Ted and Sue have made significant contributions to Baylor University, the former Hillcrest Baptist Medical Center, and the Ted and Sue Getterman Wellness Center among many others.

He is survived by wife Sue Getterman, sons Louis Theodore (T) and Holt Getterman, and their families.  Waco’s Wilkerson-Hatch-Bailey Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
