Join us for an engaging program exploring African American travel guides, Waco history, and the role of convenience stores, presented in connection with the recent opening of the reimagined Wilton’s Landing exhibit.

This event is free. Light refreshments and HOT Dr Pepper will be provided. You must RSVP to receive free admission to the Museum.
Parking: Free parking will be available across 5th Street from the main Museum building for those arriving before 10 a.m.
Program:
Introduction: Dr. Peaches Henry, President of the Waco NAACP
Program: Leslie Wolfenden, Historic Resources Survey Coordinator, Texas Historical Commission
Wolfenden will discuss the significance of African American travel guides, such as the Green Book, exploring their content and impact and the unique travel guide sites featured in Waco, including neighborhood convenience stores. She will also touch on pivotal moments in Waco history—including the 1953 tornado, Baylor expansion, urban renewal, and interstate construction—all highlighted in the newly updated Wilton’s Landing exhibit. The program will conclude with an overview of the Texas Historical Commission’s resources for this important project.
Books and a special poster will be on display.
