“There are now well over 1,000 entries in the database from Dr Pepper, Dr Pepper Bottling, or Dr Pepper-related bottles—such as Circle A, Artesia, Salute, and Pommac,” said Karl. “I was fortunate to have about 40 collectors from around the country contribute photos and descriptions of their collections.”
Karl began collecting Dr Pepper bottles about four years ago as he approached retirement. After a 50-year career in sales, ranging from retail furniture and appliances to financial services and life insurance, he retired to a ranch in East Texas. Four generations of his family live there today, including his wife, stepdaughter, grandson, and parents.
As he started building his collection, Karl realized that while several reference books existed, most were limited and outdated. “I kept finding bottles that weren’t documented anywhere else,” he said. “So I took on the task of creating an online database to see how many different bottles, or variants, I could find and document.”
The result of that work is now publicly accessible at www.drpepperbottles.com. The searchable, cloud-based database is hosted on the MyCollections app by Altova, which is free to download on both phones and computers.
To gain access:
- Download the MyCollections app.
- Create a free account.
- Send a friend request to Karl at Karl@roadie.net with the user ID Kokradi.
- Once accepted, Karl will grant read-only access to the database.
Please note: it may take several hours for each step to process, and due to the volume of data, photos may take several days to fully download.
The database is dynamic, with new entries added regularly. In fact, many were contributed during the Convention thanks to the willingness of fellow collectors to share their knowledge.
