Yesterday, after almost a year of absence from the Dr Pepper Museum soda fountain, Blue Bell ice cream is once again available. This return comes during Spring Break, an especially busy time of the year for the Museum as well as area attractions.
According to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, on April 20, 2015 Blue Bell Creameries expanded its recall to include all products in an effort to reduce the spread ofListeria monocytogenes. Production and limited distribution began last August and is still being rolled out in some markets.
Blue Bell is a southern favorite and has long been the companion of Dr Pepper syrup and carbonated water in our famous Dr Pepper float. “The listeria outbreak was unfortunate for Blue Bell Creameries. They, like Dr Pepper, have been serving a loyal following for over 100 years” said Jack McKinney, Executive Director at the Dr Pepper Museum and Free Enterprise Institute. “We are thankful for the in-kind and financial support from Blue Bell Creameries over the past 25 years, and are excited to once again be able to offer their ice cream in our soda fountain.”
Customer favorites in the soda fountain that feature Blue Bell include floats, shakes, malts, sundaes, and egg creams. Currently the Museum has Homemade Vanilla and Milk Chocolate in stock and looks forward to offering additional flavors in the near future.
