Dr Pepper’s Wild West Exhibit Opening Announcement
Open July 4th 2015 through May 2016, the legendary Wild West comes to life at the Dr Pepper Museum sponsored by 92.9 Shooter FM. Starting in the 1930s, Dr Pepper has used the Wild West as the backdrop for a variety of advertising pieces. The exhibit explores the variety of ways that Dr Pepper and other soft drinks used America’s love affair with the Wild West to create some widely popular advertising pieces.
Cowboys and cowgirls played starring roles on advertising posters. Dr Pepper’s own musical show, 10-2-4 Ranch, showcased a popular cowboy group of the 1940s, The Sons of the Pioneers. The exhibit will even feature some fun western themed items like ornately decorated cowboy boots, branding irons, wooden toy guns, and boot shaped mugs that proclaim their brand loyalty in a bold way.
While viewing these colorful Dr Pepper advertising and promotional items, visitors will discover the myth of the American west and how the myth developed and became popularized in American culture starting in the 1930s.
The young’uns and young at heart can even find something to do while hanging out with their folks. Included in this exhibit is a highly interactive area for children of all ages where they can design their own cattle brand, cook up a mess of food at a chuck wagon, or spend time sitting around the campfire telling their own tall tales.
The Dr Pepper Museum is located at 300 S. 5th Street in downtown Waco. During the spring and summer, the Museum is open Monday through Saturday from 10:00 AM until 5:00 PM and Sunday from Noon until 5:00 PM, last ticket sold at 4:15. During the fall and winter, the museum is closed on Mondays; other days remain the same. For more information, visit us on the web at www.drpeppermuseum.com.
